Demo route and what to expect

The Legion Was Here demo asks you to reconstruct Vulbreek's human disguise, enter Mount Rushmore, and complete a mission against Neptunian terrorists. Success depends on both your appearance and your knowledge of the identity you are borrowing. A documented infiltration bug also caused a correct answer to be rejected, so a failed response does not always mean you overlooked a clue.

Start with Patrick's tutorial, then tackle Vulbreek's larger dossier. Both involve investigating documents, changing Legion's appearance, and answering questions as your target.

Part of the demoWhat it contains
TutorialA short training assignment in which you impersonate Patrick for Alan Cotton
Full missionVulbreek's disguise, the Mount Rushmore infiltration, and the Neptunian objectives
Investigation toolsMovable documents, document flipping, a magnifier, and notes written on your hand
LanguagesEnglish, French, and Simplified Chinese
Scope limitsOne full case after training, with no demo achievements or story ending

This walkthrough explains how to organize the evidence and move through the mission without listing Vulbreek's exact appearance settings. Allow more attention for the main case than the tutorial suggests: the training folder is much smaller, while Vulbreek's documents require cross-checking.

Complete Patrick's tutorial

Alan Cotton's training assignment introduces the two things an impersonation needs: a convincing face and believable answers. The folder includes a torn photograph, Alan's sketch of Patrick, and a shopping list. Read the mission order before interpreting those items.

Follow this sequence:

  1. Read Alan's instructions. Establish who Patrick is and what Alan expects from the impersonation.
  2. Inspect the photograph and drawing together. Compare the visible features instead of relying on one image for the entire face.
  3. Check the shopping list. Purchases can reveal personal preferences that matter during conversation.
  4. Record useful background details on your hand. Use the available categories to organize information you may need during infiltration.
  5. Adjust Legion's appearance. Hover over laboratory elements and watch the monitor for their names.
  6. Begin the conversation when prepared. Your notes should support the identity as well as the face.

To turn a document over, hold the left mouse button on it, then press Space. Inspect both sides of every item, using the magnifier for small lettering or visual details.

Alan met Patrick at Ocean World in Seattle while celebrating his own twelfth birthday. Patrick also works outside the entertainment industry. Record these facts rather than guessing from his clothing.

The shopping list includes tofu, soy sauce, vegan cheese, and avocados. Together, those purchases suggest dietary preferences that can help you evaluate answers to a dinner question.

Investigate Vulbreek's dossier

The main mission expands the same process with alien documents and less straightforward visual evidence. Read the brief first, then inspect the whole folder before settling on appearance choices.

EvidenceWhat to examine
Surveillance photographVisible details that can be compared with the rest of the dossier
Neptunian magazine pageInformation associated with Vulbreek and its relationship to other evidence
Clown-costume photographFacial details that remain useful despite the costume
Poem and separate translationMeaning revealed by reading the two documents together
Reading-and-writing noteThe direction used to interpret Neptunian material
Anatomical diagramPhysical information relevant to understanding the disguise
Substance-composition noteTechnical details and numbers worth recording for later questions

Read personal material alongside its translation, then revisit diagrams and technical notes once you understand the context. Keep the reading-direction note in mind whenever you interpret Neptunian text. An assumption about reading order can affect your understanding of another document.

The clown photograph deserves a careful second look. Compare individual features across the pictures rather than treating the costume as a complete portrait of the required disguise. If written descriptions are vague, use the photographs to narrow down visible features.

Not every clue is trustworthy. The game deliberately includes misleading information, so a contradiction is a reason to compare evidence. It is not proof that the unusual document contains the answer.

Before leaving the dossier, check that your notes separate these three things:

  • Appearance evidence: the feature you identified and the document supporting it.
  • Personal information: details that could establish Vulbreek's identity during questioning.
  • Numbers and unresolved clues: each number with its meaning, plus anything that still needs checking.

Build the disguise and enter Mount Rushmore

Decide the appearance you are aiming for before cycling through laboratory options. The disguise includes age, hairstyle, hair color, eyes, ears, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and facial hair. Working from a prepared checklist makes it easier to notice a feature you have not resolved.

Laboratory itemAppearance setting
Eyeball and contactsEye shape and eye color
Lipstick and noseMouth shape and nose shape
EarEars
Razor and markerFacial hair and eyebrows
StopwatchAge
Spray canHair color

The monitor identifies elements you hover over. Use those names to check your selections, and remember to check hairstyle separately.

Age is less precise than matching a visible facial feature. Consider the whole dossier before choosing an age category.

Before starting infiltration, review your appearance and hand notes. You need both a convincing resemblance and enough background knowledge to answer as Vulbreek.

During questioning, read the entire prompt and eliminate options that conflict with established facts. If the wording seems unfamiliar, restate the question in simpler terms. A question about an event may be testing a personal preference or relationship already established in the dossier.

For a perfect result, match all ten appearance traits and answer every question correctly. If an attempt goes poorly, revisit uncertain clues before changing settings on your next attempt.

Handle wrong answers and technical problems

Version 0.5.3.6 corrected an erroneous accepted answer during the Neptunian infiltration. Players also reported rejected responses involving Mount Rushmore's presidents, including Abraham Lincoln as the fourth head, and a birthday count drawn from dialogue. These reports make build information important when investigating a seemingly unfair failure.

The patch confirms an incorrect infiltration answer, but it does not establish that every reported question shares that defect. Check your deduction before assuming another mistake is a bug.

When reporting a rejected answer on the Steam discussion board, include screenshots of the question and supporting document. Add your selected answer and build version if available.

The older purple-screen problem involved the option for reducing intense visual effects. Update before retrying. If you need reduced effects, disabling that option should not be your required workaround.

Linux and Steam Deck remain unsupported in the reported demo experience. WebView2 helped some Linux players launch the game, but missing cursors and flickering layers persisted, preventing reliable play.

FAQ

Does this legion was here demo walkthrough cover the full game?

No. It covers Patrick's training assignment and the demo's Neptunian mission. The full release contains six missions, so completing this route does not complete the campaign.

Can I still download the demo?

The demo was removed from the Steam store around the full game's launch. Whether an existing library owner can still install it has not been officially confirmed.

Does demo progress transfer to the full release?

Progress transfer has not been announced. The demo's Steam Cloud listing does not establish shared saves with the full game. Plan to begin the release from the start.

Can I earn a perfect score?

Yes. Players have reported achieving a full match in the demo. Review every appearance trait and conversation answer, and check for the infiltration fix if a response supported by the dossier is rejected.

Is there another full mission or a secret ending?

The public demo contains one full mission after the tutorial. It does not include a second full case, a story ending, or an achievement list.
